The mission of the Seven Sorrows BVM Parish Nursing Program is to provide access for members of the congregation to health professionals for the purpose of education, health and wellness promotion, disease prevention, and to provide resources as health care advocates.
The mission of the Seven Sorrows BVM Parish Nursing Program is to be a healing ministry that responds to the health and wellness needs of the church members through a holistic approach – body, mind, and spirit as directed by Jesus Christ, the Divine Physician.
The Parish Nursing Ministry began in February 2000 when a committee was formed to develop programs to benefit parishioners. The Nursing Ministry holds blood pressure screenings once a month before and after Mass in the Narthex of the Church.
In addition, the ministry offers educational classes on such topics as Stroke Prevention, Breast Cancer, Diabetes and CPR. They hold health fairs where representatives from various medical and health care agencies provide some screenings and distribute educational materials. The monthly newsletter "Healthful Hints" which encompasses a wide variety of medical topics is mailed to each home every month with the parish newsletter.
They provide nursing care to parishioners when needed. They maintain an inventory of health care products that parishioners may borrow when the need arises. They assist in providing transportation to doctor appointments, treatments, therapy sessions.
Recently the nursing ministry has acquired two AEDs (Automatic External Defibilator) which will allow immediate treatment in the event of a cardiac arrest.
The Nursing ministry would like to continue to be the health educators, health counselors and the integrators of faith and health to our parish.
